Ants are the pest people try hardest to fix themselves, and surface sprays are why they keep coming back. Killing foragers does nothing to the nest; baiting does.
Why the spray from the supermarket fails
A surface spray kills the ants you can see. Those are foragers, and they are a small fraction of the colony — the queen and the brood are in the nest, producing replacements faster than a surface spray removes them. Worse, some species respond to a repellent spray by budding: the colony splits and establishes satellite nests elsewhere on the property. That is why the problem appears to move rather than stop.
What we do instead
- Liquid baiting into stations. Quench Pro liquid ant bait (imidacloprid 0.05 g/kg) charged into Rega liquid ant bait stations. Foragers carry it back and feed it through the colony, including to the queen. It is slower to look impressive and far more likely to actually finish the job.
- Targeted perimeter and trail treatment where a residual is genuinely appropriate.
- Conducive condition work — the moisture source, the food source, the branch touching the roof, the mulch over the weep holes.
The Brisbane winter ant problem
Ants come indoors here in the dry winter months looking for water, not food, which is why they congregate in kitchens, bathrooms and laundries, around sinks, dishwashers and leaking taps. September is Brisbane’s driest month at 28.6 mm average rainfall, against 176.1 mm in February. If the ants have arrived in winter and they are heading for wet areas, the fix starts with the moisture and not with a can.

Safe around kids and pets: what that actually means
Every pest control company in Brisbane says “family and pet safe”. Very few say what they mean by it, and an unqualified claim that a treatment is “safe” or “non-toxic” is not one we are willing to make. Here is the specific version.
- Every product we apply is registered with the APVMA for the use we put it to, and is applied at label rate. Registration is a verifiable fact; “safe” is not.
- We select low-hazard formulations for occupied homes. Our standard internal residual is Seclira WSG (dinotefuran 400 g/kg, APVMA 83011), with Seclira Gel Cockroach Bait (dinotefuran 5 g/kg, APVMA 83034) placed on bait dots inside cupboards rather than sprayed across surfaces.
- Keep children and pets off treated surfaces until they are dry — typically 30 to 60 minutes for internal areas. Once dry, treated surfaces are fine for normal contact.
- Rodenticides go in lockable stations only, never loose. We use Selontra soft bait (colecalciferol 0.75 g/kg, APVMA 81767) in high-traffic internal areas, and where a second-generation product is genuinely warranted it is used strictly to label under the restricted-chemical rules that took effect in 2026.
- We will tell you what we applied, where, and at what rate, and the Safety Data Sheet for every product is available on request before we treat, not after.
What we will not tell you is that a treatment is chemical free, non-toxic, eco-friendly or one hundred per cent safe. If a pest control company uses a registered pesticide, none of those claims is true, and under Australian Consumer Law they are claims the business has to be able to substantiate.
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled: 1. to cancel your service contract with us; and 2. to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If the failure does not amount to a major failure you are entitled to have problems with the service rectified in a reasonable time and, if this is not done, to cancel your contract and obtain a refund for the unused portion of the contract.

How long does ant baiting take to work?
You should see the trail thin out within a few days and go quiet within two to three weeks. Do not spray over the bait stations — that is the single fastest way to stop the program working.
