Two very different problems

Almost every cockroach job in Brisbane is one of two things, and confusing them is why people end up paying twice.

Large outdoor species — Australian, American and smoky brown

These live outside, in garden beds, subfloors, roof voids, garden waste, stormwater and mulch, and they come inside opportunistically, particularly after rain. They are covered by a standard general pest treatment. The work is a residual band internally, dusting through accessible roof voids and subfloors, and reducing the harbourage outside that sustains them.

German cockroach — a different job entirely

German cockroach lives and breeds indoors, almost always in the kitchen and bathroom, in warm cavities around motors, hinges, and appliance housings. It does not come in from the garden and it does not respond to surface spraying — spraying disperses it and makes the infestation harder to clear. It requires a gel baiting program with a follow-up treatment to catch the generation that hatches after the first.

Why Brisbane cockroach pressure is what it is

Brisbane averages 1,065.2 mm of rain a year across 83 rain days, and December to March alone delivers 603.2 mm of it — 57% of the annual total. January averages a maximum of 30.4 °C, and 9am relative humidity sits at 63% across the year, peaking at 66–70% from February through June. Warm, wet and humid is the condition set cockroaches are built for, and while they are active here all year, the December-to-March window is when a few becomes a problem.

The roof void step

Roof void treatment is standard on accessible roof spaces in a BugBoss general treatment. In Brisbane housing the roof void is a primary breeding site for the large outdoor species — it is dark, warm, undisturbed and full of harbourage — and a treatment that covers only skirting boards and the perimeter leaves the source untouched. It is the most common reason a cheaper treatment does not hold.

Safe around kids and pets: what that actually means

Every pest control company in Brisbane says “family and pet safe”. Very few say what they mean by it, and an unqualified claim that a treatment is “safe” or “non-toxic” is not one we are willing to make. Here is the specific version.

Every product we apply is registered with the APVMA for the use we put it to, and is applied at label rate. Registration is a verifiable fact; “safe” is not.
We select low-hazard formulations for occupied homes. Our standard internal residual is Seclira WSG (dinotefuran 400 g/kg, APVMA 83011), with Seclira Gel Cockroach Bait (dinotefuran 5 g/kg, APVMA 83034) placed on bait dots inside cupboards rather than sprayed across surfaces.
Keep children and pets off treated surfaces until they are dry — typically 30 to 60 minutes for internal areas. Once dry, treated surfaces are fine for normal contact.
Rodenticides go in lockable stations only, never loose. We use Selontra soft bait (colecalciferol 0.75 g/kg, APVMA 81767) in high-traffic internal areas, and where a second-generation product is genuinely warranted it is used strictly to label under the restricted-chemical rules that took effect in 2026.
We will tell you what we applied, where, and at what rate, and the Safety Data Sheet for every product is available on request before we treat, not after.

What we will not tell you is that a treatment is chemical free, non-toxic, eco-friendly or one hundred per cent safe. If a pest control company uses a registered pesticide, none of those claims is true, and under Australian Consumer Law they are claims the business has to be able to substantiate.

What you can do that actually helps

Fix leaking taps, traps and dishwasher connections — cockroaches need water more urgently than food.
Clear the gap behind and under the fridge, dishwasher and oven. That is where German cockroach lives.
Move garden waste, timber offcuts and stacked pots away from the external walls.
Keep mulch and soil below the weep holes.
Do not spray over gel bait. If we have placed bait dots, surface spray near them stops them working.

Your rights come first, and they are not ours to limit

Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled: 1. to cancel your service contract with us; and 2. to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If the failure does not amount to a major failure you are entitled to have problems with the service rectified in a reasonable time and, if this is not done, to cancel your contract and obtain a refund for the unused portion of the contract.

How do I know if I have German cockroaches?

Size and location. German cockroach is small — around 12 to 15 mm — light tan with two dark stripes behind the head, and it lives indoors in the kitchen and bathroom, clustered in warm cavities around appliance motors and hinges. The large brown or black cockroaches that come in from the garden after rain are a different problem with a different solution. Send us a photo if you are unsure.

Why do you charge extra for German cockroach?

Because it is a different job. It needs a gel baiting program and a follow-up treatment to catch the generation that hatches after the first, rather than the residual spray a general treatment uses — and spraying German cockroach actively makes it worse by dispersing the population.
