Spider callouts in Brisbane rise sharply through spring, as homes open up and webbing species build through eaves, pergolas, window frames and outdoor furniture. Redbacks are the ones worth taking seriously — they favour dry, sheltered, undisturbed spots, which in practice means under outdoor seating, inside letterboxes, behind pot plants, under handrails, in children’s play equipment and in the lip under a barbecue.
What treatment covers
- External perimeter, eaves and soffits — where webbing species anchor.
- Harbourage points — fence lines, retaining walls, pergolas, play equipment, outdoor furniture, letterbox, meter box, stored items along walls.
- Web removal, because leaving the web leaves the anchor point.
- Internal treatment where there is internal activity.
For spiders specifically we use a bifenthrin product — Biflex, in either the Ultra Lo-Odour or AquaMax formulation, both 100 g/L bifenthrin and both Restricted Chemical Products with their own rate tables. It is used for spiders and not as a general-purpose treatment.
Honest expectations
Ground-dwelling spiders, including funnel-webs and mouse spiders, live in burrows in the soil and are not meaningfully controlled by a perimeter treatment — nor is it desirable to try to sterilise a garden. What treatment does well is reduce webbing species around the structure and knock down redback populations in the harbourage points where people and children actually reach. Any company promising a spider-free property is promising something no treatment delivers.
Safe around kids and pets: what that actually means
Every pest control company in Brisbane says “family and pet safe”. Very few say what they mean by it, and an unqualified claim that a treatment is “safe” or “non-toxic” is not one we are willing to make. Here is the specific version.
- Every product we apply is registered with the APVMA for the use we put it to, and is applied at label rate. Registration is a verifiable fact; “safe” is not.
- We select low-hazard formulations for occupied homes. Our standard internal residual is Seclira WSG (dinotefuran 400 g/kg, APVMA 83011), with Seclira Gel Cockroach Bait (dinotefuran 5 g/kg, APVMA 83034) placed on bait dots inside cupboards rather than sprayed across surfaces.
- Keep children and pets off treated surfaces until they are dry — typically 30 to 60 minutes for internal areas. Once dry, treated surfaces are fine for normal contact.
- Rodenticides go in lockable stations only, never loose. We use Selontra soft bait (colecalciferol 0.75 g/kg, APVMA 81767) in high-traffic internal areas, and where a second-generation product is genuinely warranted it is used strictly to label under the restricted-chemical rules that took effect in 2026.
- We will tell you what we applied, where, and at what rate, and the Safety Data Sheet for every product is available on request before we treat, not after.
What we will not tell you is that a treatment is chemical free, non-toxic, eco-friendly or one hundred per cent safe. If a pest control company uses a registered pesticide, none of those claims is true, and under Australian Consumer Law they are claims the business has to be able to substantiate.
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled: 1. to cancel your service contract with us; and 2. to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If the failure does not amount to a major failure you are entitled to have problems with the service rectified in a reasonable time and, if this is not done, to cancel your contract and obtain a refund for the unused portion of the contract.
